Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 715 - Saw (2004), James Wan and Memorable Villains
Q: What do you think made Saw stand out when it released in 2004?
Its combination of a tight, character-driven premise, clever misdirection, and a DIY indie vibe created a fresh and memorable horror experience that felt smart and emotionally engaging despite its low budget.
Episode 702 - The Forbidden City (2025), Yaxi Liu, and Italian Action Films
Q: How does the kitchen fight compare to other modern action scenes in terms of camera work and planning?
The hosts note that the kitchen fight uses long takes, deliberate camera movement, and practical effects with minimal quick cuts, allowing the audience to follow the choreography and feel the impact as a coherent, cinematic sequence rather than a rapid-fire montage.
Episode 702 - The Forbidden City (2025), Yaxi Liu, and Italian Action Films
Q: What are the three action-oriented roles you'd cast for Yaxi Liu as part of a hypothetical ensemble, and why those choices?
They brainstormed a trio including Zoe Bell for choreography, and then considered someone with gravitas like Abern Mithunder or Anna de Armas to balance star power with real skill, aiming for performers who would own the screen and bring depth beyond name value.
Episode 669 - The MFF Batman Returns Soundtrack
Q: What did you think of the plot of Batman Returns?
While it doesn't always make logical sense, emotionally the film is very compelling and impactful.
Episode 662 - You're Next (2011), Kitchen Fights, and Sharni Vinson
Q: How would Erin do against the following home invaders?
Mark speculates that Erin would be effective against home invaders, handling the situation with intelligence and skill, just like she did in You're Next.
