  • My current favorite music podcast

I started listening to You Don’t Know Mojack years ago (can’t remember exactly when) and my recent re-discovery of all things ALL & Descendents prompted me to go back to listening to YDKM and I’ve also started listening to it’s supplementary podcast, Mojack Stacks. I love all of the deep inside info on all of the many, many great SST releases as well as all of the great interviews with the SST band musicians, label employees & affiliates. Excellent podcast.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Backtracks Volume 8 w/ Chris Wahl
Q: What was your first Flesh Eaters show like?
He recalls being 20 at the time, navigating a 21+ club scene, and feeling the weight and excitement of joining a band with a strong local following.
Backtracks Volume 8 w/ Chris Wahl
Q: Were you born in LA?
Chris Wahl confirms he was born in Los Angeles, sharing early family and school experiences that led him toward drumming.
One Chapter in the Book, Chapter 11 w/ Matthew Worley
Q: How did the political content in zines evolve in the 1980s, and what does that say about the broader political climate in the UK at the time?
There was a clear shift toward more explicit political content, with Crass and allied groups pushing ideological debates, while many zines stayed music-focused; the era reflected a more polarized political climate and a DIY response to Thatcherism and social turmoil.
One Chapter in the Book, Chapter 11 w/ Matthew Worley
Q: Your book Zerox Machine covers a vast array of zines; what were the biggest challenges sourcing and validating these materials?
The sourcing was driven by networks—reaching out to collectors in Brighton and London, traveling through connections, and tracing editions across years; validation came from cross-referencing multiple copies and talking to people who preserved the material.
One Chapter in the Book, Chapter 11 w/ Matthew Worley
Q: You grew up in Norwich in the 70s and early exposure to punk started with Adam and the Ants and Top of the Pops, can you describe how that environment shaped your path into punk history?
Growing up in Norwich exposed me to a local scene that paradoxically connected to wider national punk threads through venues, fanzines, and the university circuit, which seeded my interest in how regional scenes fed the national DIY culture.
