民乐合奏的特点:实用性强绝大部分和人民群众的风俗生活结合在一起。如过年过节、婚丧嫁娶、迎神赛会等活动,都有民乐合奏的存在。
“民乐”指民族乐器演奏的乐曲。民族乐器包括扬琴、琵琶、大阮、中阮、柳琴、笛子、二胡、中胡、高胡、古筝、唢呐、笙、葫芦丝和民族打击乐器等。有时加上鼓、锣、钵等打击乐。根据乐曲的需要，有时还加上西洋乐器，如大提琴，低音贝斯、竖琴等。这些乐器组合在一起，演奏的乐曲叫“民乐合奏”。
