  • Voice of the Owner

It’s simply a very bad show if you’ve been a Pirates fan for more than 15 years. The perspective is that of Bob Nutting. The host unabashedly defends his every move and is constantly encouraging fans to buy the company line.

    Great Show!

I really appreciate how Gary actually put some thought into his analysis and isn’t just looking for the most dramaful statement. Keep up the great work

  • Excellent Content

I really enjoy Gary’s insights. He’s generally very levelheaded with his analysis. He really takes the time to study the subject matter. I also enjoy how passionate he gets about certain subjects and that he’s able to show that from time to time, but not allow it to take over the podcast. Keep up the great work. That’s why I keep listening.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

POWER PLAY: Pittsburgh Pirates ACT Decisively as Carmen Mlodzinski RESISTS Bullpen Move
Q: Yorke versus Callahan, what is the pecking order and who would have been called up if eligible?
Yorke is viewed as the higher-ceiling, more complete player long-term, but Callahan fits the immediate roster need, so Callahan was chosen for now; Yorke remains available if Callahan falters or Yorke becomes eligible.
REASSESS: Should Pittsburgh Pirates Option Bubba Chandler to AAA?
Q: All right, Termarr Johnson is hitting just .155 in AAA, but it's still only 21. Would it make sense to send him back to Altoona?
The host suggests continuing to advance Termarr Johnson rather than sending him back, noting his long junior/minor league adjustment and the lack of a strong candidate to push him off second base, while acknowledging the need for continued development at bat and defense.
ASCENT: Pittsburgh Pirates Offense DEFIES Expectations With Griffin, Gonzales, and Horowitz
Q: What would a playoff-ready left-handed starter addition look like for the Pirates, and who might be the most realistic targets?
The discussion centers on acquiring a veteran lefty to anchor the playoffs rotation, with names like Barco or a potential trade target discussed as possibilities to add depth for the stretch run.
ASCENT: Pittsburgh Pirates Offense DEFIES Expectations With Griffin, Gonzales, and Horowitz
Q: Given the Pirates' struggles against left-handed starters, will they be inclined to try Barco more against lefties or make other corresponding roster decisions?
There's consideration for matching up with lefties; there's debate about benching or rotating players like Schwaber against left-handed starters, and the idea of adding a lefty starter by deadline is discussed as a possible strategic move.
ASCENT: Pittsburgh Pirates Offense DEFIES Expectations With Griffin, Gonzales, and Horowitz
Q: How much advanced planning and communication goes into bullpen usage and do relievers generally know ahead of time when they're likely to pitch?
The bullpen planning is deliberate; teams average out who will pitch and when, with some situations prepped for and a few last-resort calls, but day-to-day usages can still be adjusted based on game flow.
