Theory: she was familiar with the house and could have easily grabbed the ax first and attacked . There are killers who do not bring weapons with them and instead grab a kitchen knife or something in the houses. This coupled with the fact that she only had wounds in her forehead and foot. To me that could be as a result of swinging the ax and momentarily losing control over the ax during the 41 swings. Great episode.

  • Candi's Injuries

I think it is clear that it was not premeditated however I feel as though it is far more likely that Candi's wounds were self inflicted. Usually in a viscous crime of passion, the perpetrator does sustain injuries. This would also explain the fact that one was on her toe and one was on her head, probably from a swinging motion. Someone in self defense does not clean up, go to that extent and then lie to cover it up.

  • Love

I love this podcast. Listening to the Michael Jackson episode. I’ve gone on the deep dive on him and haven’t watched the movie. I did watch the documentary that tried to portray him as guilty. There is just no way he was guilty of this. It was so sad what everyone did to him the last years of his life. Anyways you guys need to post more podcasts. Love listening!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Killer Thriller Docu: What If the World's Most Infamous Killer was Your Grandfather?
Q: What did you learn about the reliability of media narratives versus primary sources in understanding Manson's life and crimes?
Media narratives can be sensational; primary sources like transcripts and trials reveal complexities, and questioning widely accepted stories helped me form a more evidence-based view, though it was emotionally challenging.
Killer Thriller Docu: What If the World's Most Infamous Killer was Your Grandfather?
Q: How did your relationship with your father influence the documentary, and what were the challenges in including or excluding family aspects?
The relationship shaped the film's emotional arc; I chose to center my father's story while setting boundaries around my mother's side to protect privacy, and I confronted hard truths about how trauma travels through generations.
Killer Thriller Docu: What If the World's Most Infamous Killer was Your Grandfather?
Q: What initially drew you to tell this story about your grandfather, and how did your focus evolve during the making of the documentary?
I started with personal context about Manson, but as I spoke with family, therapists, and researchers, the narrative broadened into generational trauma and the human side of a public figure, leading me to seek truth through documents, trials, and firsthand accounts.
Killer Thriller: How Far Would You Go To Stay Alive?
Q: What makes Jasmine's escape believable from a filmmaking perspective?
The escape hinges on Jasmine's observation, strategic restraint, and understanding of the captor's motives, rather than an obvious physical fight, which aligns with real-life survivorship stories.
Killer Thriller: What Makes An Ordinary Person Commit Murder?
Q: Did working on two true crime projects early in your career affect you emotionally?
It was mainly about the craft and collaborating with the cast, though I did recall the intense emotional weight from the Donna Yacklick project that stayed with me after filming.
