  • Keep the spotlight on!

Important topic to keep in the spotlight. I particularly liked the episode which

looked at all femicides and addressed not only how we can keep women safe but also how we might prevent men from becoming violent in the first place. I think it’s time we put more into helping men (those who can be helped) before they resort to murder.

  • End men’s violence.

This is excruciating listening to Michaela Cronin mincing words. It CANNOT be generalised as a female OR CULTURAL problem. It is a MALE problem. Women ( and men ) are ALWAYS victims of MALES who perpetrate domestic violence. It is NOT only deaths. It is “killing” living and vibrant, smart and amazing women and their CHILDREN who are hurt and harmed by the perpetrator and how they lie in court.

  • Timely & interesting

First episode was good. Well researched and interesting, Timely content with coercive control laws being introduced around the Australian states and a growing awareness in our society of this previously unrecognised and unnamed form of abuse in domestic relationships. Having the language and the stories helps us understand and deal with this very serious problem in our society. Looking forward to the rest of the episodes.

  • Episode Titles

Hello, this is absolutely a podcast I would recommend and encourage others to listen to and support.

I did want to share one concern. I find it disconcerting that the episodes are titled with the perpetrator’s names rather than the names of those who suffered. Centering the perpetrator in this way risks giving them further recognition and attention, while the people who were harmed remain in the background.

It echoes the dynamic we see in the court process, where the victim’s names and stories c... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

4: Tyrone Thompson
Q: What drove the escalation from coercive control to lethal violence?
The discussion points to a long pattern of manipulation, isolation, and threats, combined with a belief in impunity and the offender's use of violence to intimidate and dominate, which culminated in a brutal homicide.
3: Louis Mahony
Q: What method did Gerry Thornton use to verify Laney Caldwell's death suspect?
Gerry Thornton describes a methodical process combining statements, forensic reviews, and re-examinations of the scene to build a case that Louis Mahony staged the death and manipulated perceptions, ultimately convincing authorities through persistent digging and cross-examination of alternative explanations.
