Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#235 - Neil Sanderson (Three Days Grace)
Q: What was the impact of the Adam departure and eventual return on the band's trajectory?
Adam leaving created a moment of uncertainty, but bringing Matt Walsh in as a temporary vocalist and then reintroducing Adam to form a five-piece ultimately revitalized the band and demonstrated the resilience of our fan base and creative vision.
#235 - Neil Sanderson (Three Days Grace)
Q: When did you know you were going to be a professional drummer?
As soon as the New York labels came through and we had showcases that demonstrated real industry interest, it became clear that our persistence and the work we had put in would translate into a professional career.
#234 - Gil Moore (Triumph)
Q: In 1981, you guys released Allied Forces, three singles, Fight the Good Fight, Magic Power, Say Goodbye. A fan asked how you blend these sounds and if you have a favorite style.
Blues remains Gil's favorite, with Rick contributing the “spice” and secret sauce that created diversity in Triumph's songs; both guitarists and vocal styles were chosen based on what sounded right within the song's structure rather than a preset split.
#232 - Joel Ekelöf (Soen)
Q: When did you start singing professionally and how did you discover your voice?
He started singing seriously around age 15-16, with a long path of finding his voice and learning to push through early challenges in the choir and in school.
#232 - Joel Ekelöf (Soen)
Q: Who was your biggest inspiration in the world of music?
Lands Daly (Lane Staley) and Alice in Chains were the primary inspirations as a singer, with Lane Staley influencing his raw vocal style even though he recognized the lack of formal technique.
