Redefining Ambition Through the Power Pause – Neha Ruch
Q: How did finances and budgeting play into making a pause viable?
We treated money as a joint family conversation, built a clear budget, and decided to align spending with our values. This included understanding cost of childcare, evaluating big-life decisions, and creating a financial structure that allowed both partners to participate in major career and life choices.
Redefining Ambition Through the Power Pause – Neha Ruch
Q: What prompted the shift toward writing and building a platform around stay-at-home motherhood?
Watching the misperceptions about ambitious women who pause for family life, I felt a strong need to give language and context to these experiences. The blog and book concept emerged from recognizing there wasn't a framework for redefining ambition and financial dignity during non-traditional career phases.
Redefining Ambition Through the Power Pause – Neha Ruch
Q: Tell us about your early career and how you arrived at the idea of a power pause.
I started in social media strategy in 2006, moved into a larger agency, ran women-focused accounts, and after about five years felt the politics and pace weren't sustainable for me. I then pivoted to business school, worked in a startup, and gradually built toward the concept of a power pause as a purposeful, long-term strategy rather than a lifestyle compromise.
