  • Thank you

I just had been diagnosed after 5 years of being “perfectly healthy” and so far I have listened to first two episodes and I related to every single word. Thank you for bringing awareness and support!

  • Brilliant podcast

It’s as if you were taking about me - the podcast about the uncontrolled diarrhoea beside the jeep and how embarrassed you were and how this disease is not my fault and I’m fed up of feeling like it is, or I’ve done something wrong and people ie loved ones around me thinking that I’m not that bad and sure the pain can’t be that bad and doubting myself - so thank you 💕

  • More information please

This podcast is somewhat helpful, albeit could be much more helpful if more time were given to actual information regarding endometriosis, it’s various types and where it manifests in the body, coping tips, lifestyle changes and adaptations Too much time wasted on insistent giggling and banter between the hosts. A little fun/banter is helpful putting this disease in prospective, but the hosts take it too far and it becomes a distraction from their message.

  • I'm 48yo and lived with undiagnosed endometriosis for 36 years. This disease is real and as bad as it is, the psychological effects of it can be so much worse. Since my diagnosis almost two years ago, I have relentlessly struggled against the medical current to advocate for myself and find people who listen and want to help. I'm scheduled for excision surgery and bowel resection in a week and I really needed the encouragement I found here. I know I have a long road ahead to travel, but thank God... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

168. From Harm to Hope with Social Worker Casey Berna LCSW
Q: How should someone approach suicidal thoughts when dealing with endometriosis or chronic illness?
The guest reinforces that suicidal thoughts are a serious signal for help, encourages using safe spaces to express feelings, and points to urgent resources like 988 Lifeline and the Trevor Project for immediate support.
168. From Harm to Hope with Social Worker Casey Berna LCSW
Q: What are some outside influences that shape how people with chronic illness perceive themselves and their illness?
She discusses intergenerational trauma, cultural expectations, and parental messaging, showing how early beliefs about illness can silence patients and how education and reflective work can help patients reclaim their voice.
168. From Harm to Hope with Social Worker Casey Berna LCSW
Q: Oh, Casey, could you tell us a little bit about your book and what you hoped to achieve with Endometriosis from Harm to Hope?
Casey explains that the book integrates mental health, social work perspectives, and systemic obstacles to care, aiming to validate patient experiences and provide practical tools for navigating medical trauma, access barriers, and self-advocacy.
167. Lesser Talked About Aspects of Endometriosis Surgery with Dr. Lora Liu
Q: What are the most common complications patients ask about, and how do you address long-term outcomes like urinary dysfunction or LARS after bowel involvement?
The top concerns are the potential need for a colostomy, loss of uterus, or loss of ovaries, but in practice these are rare or temporary, especially with high-volume teams. Long-term issues like urinary dysfunction or LARS can occur, but many patients improve over six months to a year with pelvic floor PT and sometimes nerve-sparing techniques. We emphasize that outcomes vary and that a comprehensive, team-based plan reduces risk and supports recovery.
167. Lesser Talked About Aspects of Endometriosis Surgery with Dr. Lora Liu
Q: What criteria do you use to decide when to proceed with excision, and how do you handle cases where the medical therapy might still be a viable option?
I start with a detailed discussion with the patient, recognizing it's their decision. Often patients have already pursued conservative therapies without full relief, and imaging isn't a sole deciding factor. I assess whether the disease is surgical and whether excision would meaningfully improve their quality of life while considering their goals and access to care; in some cases, conservative management remains reasonable.
