Can semaglutide be used to treat alcohol use disorder?
Q: Could you talk us through what you did and what you found in the trial?
We conducted a randomized controlled trial in Copenhagen with adults who had alcohol use disorder and obesity, comparing weekly semaglutide to placebo over six months. The semaglutide group showed a substantial drop in heavy drinking days from 17 to about 5 per 30 days, while the placebo group dropped to about 9, indicating roughly a 50% greater reduction with the drug.
