Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

142: IN HER ELEMENT: RACING TO JUSTICE
Q: How did you rebuild after such a long legal battle, and what motivates you to stay engaged in compliance technology today?
After turbulent years, I paused to recover and then pivoted toward the potential of legalized sports betting and technology to regulate it better. My experience gives me a unique inside view to push for real-time monitoring and responsible gaming solutions.
142: IN HER ELEMENT: RACING TO JUSTICE
Q: What does regulation look like now, given what you went through, and what remains essential for a healthy industry?
Regulation must be proactive, well-educated, and insulated from political fray. We need clear regulations, educated regulators, and a framework that prevents illicit activity while enabling innovation and economic development.
142: IN HER ELEMENT: RACING TO JUSTICE
Q: Can you explain a little bit about your arrest and what happened there, how you came to learn about what you were facing in terms of convictionWise?
The process was slow and opaque for six months; I fought to understand what was happening, demanded due process, and ultimately faced a federal trial that lasted until 2005. Despite overwhelming pressure, I refused to plead guilty to something I hadn't done, and ultimately the appellate court exonerated me, recognizing there were no laws broken and criticizing the prosecution's conduct.
139: DIARY OF AN IGAMING EXEC: VICTORIA REED
Q: What has Harvard meant for you personally and professionally?
The MBA at Harvard Business School was life-changing, providing credibility and a new lens on leadership that reinforced her drive to push beyond perceived limitations and build a global career.
139: DIARY OF AN IGAMING EXEC: VICTORIA REED
Q: You've mentioned governance and funding in relation to the UK levy. If you could redesign it, what would you change?
She argues for stronger governance around individual projects, clearer evaluation criteria, and avoiding blanket assumptions about who should receive funding, emphasizing credible structures and measurable impact.
