  • Bring back Rob Reider

Production quality and ‘listenability’ has dropped precipitately since Rob’s departure. It is now far less engaging and editing standards have fallen.

  • New Host

ILAFFT was a great podcast with Rob Reiser. I learned a lot and it was a fun way to do some hanger flying. For some reason, and with no acknowledgement or explanation they replaced Rob as the host. Rob has taken his talents to his own podcast, The Reiser Report and I migrated my listening over there

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

129. Stuck at Full Power
Q: What CRM lessons did Mac take away from this emergency?
The importance of delegating tasks, maintaining communication about thought processes, and ensuring the crew remains calm and focused, not saturating the workload during a crisis.
129. Stuck at Full Power
Q: What was the key takeaway for Christy from this incident?
Trust yourself and land when something feels off rather than continuing, then review the experience on the ground to learn from the anomaly.
129. Stuck at Full Power
Q: How did you decide to land at the nearby airbase instead of returning to the departing airport?
Mac declared an emergency to clear airspace and minimize risk, then planned a safe, long final to ensure enough energy to land, using the airbase runway and coordinating with ATC.
129. Stuck at Full Power
Q: What happened after you started the takeoff roll and noticed the throttle problem?
The throttle failed to respond, it stayed at full power, so Mac and Christy worked to diagnose and manage the situation, with Christy assisting and Mac taking the lead in executing the emergency landing procedure.
123. Engine Failure at FL230
Q: So going forward from this, you know, this experience, you know, how has your flying life changed?
It shakes you a little bit, but if you can find a solution, you can reconcile that and move on with confidence.
