  • Superb

This is my favorite movie discussion podcast. Kyle is a clear thinker and often very eloquent. He sometimes interrupts his guests to expand on their thoughts, but he seems to value his guests and their opinions.

  • Kyle is extremely knowledgeable and does his research. The deep dive on common and obscure films is a treat. I removed a star because many of his guest hosts can't get through a sentence without saying "like" several times. As a result, some of the episodes are difficult to listen to.

  • Truly Refreshing

There are a lot of film podcasts, but this one seems to be dedicated to the spirit of really digging deep into each and every film they choose. Kyle is a knowledgeable, but also gracious host who is just trying to discover what makes each movie tick (and his slate of guests are all complimentary to that very aim). A truly refreshing podcast that is well worth the time you give it.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Season 11: The Son of Cult Flicks - Kids (Episode 38)
Q: How did you feel about watching kids? Did the discomfort remind you of something that was maybe personal?
There were a lot of circumstances that I would say that in person I was on the sidelines, but it’s almost weirdly uncomfortably nostalgic, especially the scene where you’ve got so many different ages inside what you would call a trap house.
Season 11: The Son of Cult Flicks - Crash (Episode 35)
Q: What cinematic tools do you feel best suit in getting us to the mindset Cronenberg wants us in when telling this kind of perverse fable that Crash is?
Part of it is, it's funny, the word enhance is almost funny here because I think all of it sort of serves to distance you further.
Season 11: The Son of Cult Flicks - Crash (Episode 35)
Q: Did it live up to it? Did you find it not not to match up? What was your initial experience?
Oh, it definitely matched up. Again, he just has a way of filming things. So like I said, again, sex, violence, every like, I don't know.
Season 11: The Son of Cult Flicks - The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (Episode 26)
Q: What are your thoughts on the film as it relates to LGBTQIA+ culture?
The film significantly normalized queer narratives and explored themes of acceptance, identity, and community.
Season 11: The Son of Cult Flicks - The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (Episode 26)
Q: What did you think about the representation in the film?
The representation was thoughtful, especially in how Bernadette was portrayed, showcasing a multifaceted LGBTQIA+ experience.
