  • Thoughtful and Inspiring

Consistently inspired by the guests. There’s just enough repetition, like the power of names and the “I Know I Belong When” question, while each guest brings something unique and meaningful. I appreciate the insights and I find myself happier & more present after listening.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Scaling empathy moments that matter: Building inclusive cultures from day one with Brooke Sullivan
Q: How do you handle moments when someone feels they don't belong or when the environment seems hostile to their identity?
We address it by calling out harmful language, ensuring diverse voices are present, and creating structures (like Bechdel-style checks) to ensure women and other underrepresented groups have a voice. If needed, we bring in additional stakeholders (finance, legal, ops) to ensure inclusive decision-making.
Scaling empathy moments that matter: Building inclusive cultures from day one with Brooke Sullivan
Q: What's a concrete example of the kinds of conversations you encourage to exercise empathy at work?
We ran an 'exercising empathy' series that tackled hard topics like IVF, loss, pronouns, and mental health. These open conversations, even if they drew two or three participants, deeply impacted participants by giving them space to be heard and to build real connections across the organization.
Scaling empathy moments that matter: Building inclusive cultures from day one with Brooke Sullivan
Q: Can you take us inside a specific moment where you watched belonging take root for you?
A pivotal moment involved working with a mentor, Brandy Emerson, and forming a practice of creating small, deliberate friendship opportunities and wellness groups. These initiatives tied people together around shared humanity, making newcomers feel welcome and gradually building a sense of belonging that scaled with the company's growth.
Kindness is a strategy: practicing the platinum rule with Marissa Andrada
Q: What is the one truth you wish people knew about you before they started working with you?
What you see is what you get; I speak plainly, avoid jargon, and mix business focus with authentic, human connection. I bring a lifetime of experiences outside of work and inside work to serve organizations more effectively.
Mother Nature humbles, AI exposes: Authentic leadership in motion with Sarah A. Scala
Q: So you've been on stages built specifically for queer leaders. Take us back to the first time you stood on one of those stages and what it felt like to look out in the room and not have to translate yourself first?
The first LGBT program I delivered was a virtual workshop for Cape Cod Pride, which opened doors for broader speaking engagements. I could be myself on those stages, which significantly amplified my impact and energy with participants.
