そしてもうひとつの物語へ。映画 35年目のラブレター が映す、静かな時間。
棘とぬくもりのあいだで、距離のかたちをたずねるひとときです。
距離はいつから、ただの長さになったのだろう。
歩くこと、疲れること、ひと息つくこと。
昔の人が身体で感じていた距離の話は、いつのまにか、僕たち自身の暮らしの話へとつながっていく。
定規では測れない感覚を、そっと拾い集めるような時間。
耳を澄ませて、少し遠回りをしてみたくなるそんなおはなし。

険しい嶺を、人々は畏れと親しみをこめて鬼と呼びました。千年のあいだ、山に入る修行者たちを黙って見守ってきた鬼の夫婦がいて、遠い国から渡ってきて、ありがとうと微笑みながら歴史の向こうへ消えていった王子もいました。
節分の夜、豆をつまんだ指先が、ふと止まってしまうような話です。
怖い顔の裏側に、そっとしまわれた寂しさや、深くてあたたかな慈しみ。

台所に立ちながら、暦のことを思い出す。

屋島の境内には、たくさんの狸が肩を寄せている。けれど源平合戦の時代、その席はまだ空いていた。弁慶はいつ物語に呼ばれ、狸はなぜ近代になって現れたのか。うどんの出汁の匂い、静かな海、瓦投げの軌跡をたどりながら、僕は物語の配役について考える。歴史と伝説のあいだで、誰が舞台に立ち、誰が待っていたのか。読後、世界の見え方が、ほんの少しやわらかくなる一篇。
