Marie Nielsen fortæller i 1940 om juleforberedelserne i True fra perioden 1890-1900, ofte omtalt som "de gode gamle dage". Dengang var årstiderne markante, og vinteren med sne og frost blev set som en naturlig kontrast til den varme sommer.
I True etablerede man i 1951 et frysehus med 20 bokse, hvilket gav beboerne mulighed for moderne madopbevaring. Frysehuset fungerede godt indtil 1970'erne, hvor hjemmefrysere blev mere udbredte.
Landsbyerne var afhængige af naturlige vandkilder som brønde, vandhuller og åer. Indtil midten af 1800-tallet var vandforsyningen primært et individuelt anliggende for hver enkelt gård eller husstand.
