A Lifelong Career in Pediatric Cardiac Intervention: Trials and Tribulations
Q: What advice do you have for fellows and junior faculty starting out in cardiac cath?
If you aren't sure you love it, don't do it; be prepared to move for opportunities, and find a niche or focus within interventional cardiology to shape your path, because passion and willingness to handle complications are essential.
A Lifelong Career in Pediatric Cardiac Intervention: Trials and Tribulations
Q: What do you enjoy most about pediatric cardiology these days?
The combination of patient care, ongoing research, and innovations, along with mentoring the next generation and participating in team-based administrative work that keeps the program advancing.
A Lifelong Career in Pediatric Cardiac Intervention: Trials and Tribulations
Q: How did this happen for you?
It was not a straight line; a series of decisions during residency, a pivotal rotation in pediatric cardiology, and exposure to mentors who demonstrated how exciting and impactful cath lab work could be.
A Lifelong Career in Pediatric Cardiac Intervention: Trials and Tribulations
Q: What got you interested in this career path?
I was drawn to a field where you could actively do things, see results, and have longitudinal patient care, which led me to pediatric cardiology after an elective that introduced me to the field's active, problem-solving environment.
The Plastic Problem in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery: A Lifetime of Outcomes Research
Q: Why is a lifespan cohort important for understanding congenital heart disease, and how would you integrate multiple data sources?
A lifespan cohort allows us to track how early-life factors affect adult health, requiring integration of retrospective data, ongoing prospective enrollment, phenotypic and genomic data, biospecimens, and cross-disciplinary collaboration to build a comprehensive resource.
