1960年代的濁水溪南岸，定居於此地的鍾姓八大社，每一年都要為得年活動出陣頭，八個村莊中，新庄的陣頭出最多也最多種類，出文館(文陣)、武館(武陣)、獅陣等，獅陣有開嘴獅和合嘴獅。村民們為了出陣頭會集合練習，新庄的武陣會來到廖燕家的門口埕練拳頭。
廖燕會付錢請拳頭師傅來教學，練武陣的人會在門口埕khan-khoo(牽圈)，並且一起操演各式武器，練習雙刀、叉、木棍和盾牌等。
阿胖就讀陽明國小的時候，要幫家裡養豬的大小工作，放學去採豬菜餵豬，還要整理豬圈。當時的養豬是以農村家庭養豬，阿胖餵... more
1960年代的濁水溪南岸，冬天很冷，樹生將自家留種的稻穀用井水浸種之後，會準備水稻育苗的工作。如果溫度太低，他和阿胖會在水稻田的秧苗床製作擋風板，樹生還會燒木柴生火幫秧苗保暖。
冬至那天，王環會自己搓湯圓，阿胖就讀陽明國小的時候，會幫忙王環一起搓湯圓。阿胖年紀小但力氣大，他把糯米粉塊搓揉成糯米糰。王環煮成鹹湯圓或是甜湯圓，甜口味是加薑母和糖，鹹口味是加入蚵仔和茼蒿，賣蚵人會用姑婆芋包裝鮮蚵，茼蒿越冷長得越好，自己家菜園每年都會種茼蒿食用，煮成鹹湯圓很對味，是新庄人愛吃的口味。

1960年代的濁水溪南岸，每年的冬天，崙背新庄村民會在10月選出一天舉辦謝平安的拜拜。那天大家也會博珓選出新的爐主，爐主要負責一整年開山宮的祭祀相關各種事務。
新任的爐主和前一任的爐主在謝平安那天辦理交接，新任爐主舉辦收兵的儀式，讓新庄內的五個兵營放假，直到正月15日元宵節那天舉辦放兵。元宵節放兵之後，也要準備犒軍的拜拜儀式，每個月的初一和十五都要犒軍。王環每個月也會在家裡犒軍的拜拜儀式。

1960年代的濁水溪南岸，溪水生養豐富的野生動物，新庄在1960年村內大大小小水溝都仍是自然底質，溝渠的水源來自西螺溪，撥開溝渠的泥土後，很容易能找到可以食用的蜆(蜊仔lâ-á)。除了採集蜆，大家也採集póo-thâu-tsinn(斧頭tsinn)，撿崎獨仔(khiā-to̍k-á)，而體型大的斧頭tsinn只有在斷水的時候才能耙到，每當一年一度的斷水，村人們會去大溝採集斧頭tsinn和斧頭tsinn仔。斧頭tsinn是生活在大溝溝底的雙枚貝，是一種很大的貝類，會藏身在泥沙中，有兩枚相同形狀的貝... more
