2001年9月16日清晨，凤凰县千工坪乡亥冲村一村民在羊雀湾山坡发现两具女尸。经确认，死者为同村未满20岁的阿雪和阿紫。二人头部被山石多次击打致死，其中一人曾遭性侵。现场有焚尸痕迹。
专案组走访排查后锁定两伙嫌疑人：一对是当晚约会的两名外乡男青年（染黄发），一对是自称被“蒙面人”赶走的龙某某和吴某某。但因证据不足，两伙人均被排除。现场提取的精液样本受限于当时技术，无法比对。
此后16年间，侦查员排查上万人，走访周边7个村组，但案件始终未破。
2017年，湘西州公安局重启该案。

1977年6月8日，贵州独山县兔场公社纳德甲山洞内发现两具女性尸骨。警方勘查判断，两人均系被勒死后扒光衣物抛尸，死亡时间约2-3个月。经排查，确认死者为23岁的杨银珍和19岁的陈辉秀，均为外出务工途中失踪。线索指向下顶岩寨村民文**——他家境贫困，却持有大量不明来源的女士衣物和手表。其弟反映，文**曾因强奸被判刑，1976年刚释放。

2008年2月5日下午，呼和浩特市委副书记王志平在办公室内被枪杀，同室的女税务干部王英也一同遇害，凶手关六如随后自杀。现场留下长达十几页的遗书，每页均印有指纹。警方认定关六如系因曾被处分、被免职而产生报复心理，预谋杀害王志平后自杀。
王志平在案发前两日刚为儿子举办婚礼，案发次日被追认为革命烈士，引发舆论热议。本案还牵出赵黎平、冯志明等一系列后续事件。而关六如作案的枪支来源、王志平与王英的关系、以及关六如究竟为何走极端等谜团，至今仍有诸多未解之处。
