1988年9月6日清晨，湖北荆门沙洋县村民在207国道旁池塘发现三只麻袋，内装两名女性碎尸块，头颅缺失。9月8日，北京至南昌T148次列车在南昌站发现一只麻袋，内藏两颗人头。经法医比对确认，两地尸块同属两名女性。
警方追查发现，受害人雷发玉是四川梁平供销社经理，为进白布与“张萍”（实为张家珍）结识，约定前往沙市进货。凶手到底是谁？是否是团伙作案？杀人动机是什么？本期节目，一起揭晓。

2001年9月16日清晨，凤凰县千工坪乡亥冲村一村民在羊雀湾山坡发现两具女尸。经确认，死者为同村未满20岁的阿雪和阿紫。二人头部被山石多次击打致死，其中一人曾遭性侵。现场有焚尸痕迹。
专案组走访排查后锁定两伙嫌疑人：一对是当晚约会的两名外乡男青年（染黄发），一对是自称被“蒙面人”赶走的龙某某和吴某某。但因证据不足，两伙人均被排除。现场提取的精液样本受限于当时技术，无法比对。
此后16年间，侦查员排查上万人，走访周边7个村组，但案件始终未破。
