Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 1 - Meet BG
Q: What drew you to neuroscience or physics and how does that influence your approach to oncology?
My early love for physics taught me to question, to challenge principles, and to look for broader perspectives beyond a single gene or receptor. That bird's-eye view — combining critical thinking with population-level considerations — shapes how I evaluate new therapies and policies in oncology.
Episode 1 - Meet BG
Q: And could you talk about your approach to mentorship, and why you think it's important?
Mentorship is the single most impactful variable in a career; it can make or break lives, and good mentorship can open doors while bad mentorship can hinder progress. The best mentors are accessible, give freedom with accountability, and focus on helping mentees grow beyond the mentor while remaining grateful for the guidance.
Episode 4 - Dr. Ian Tannock
Q: How did you start your journey into oncology and clinical trials, and what led you to pivot toward Common Sense Oncology?
I began with a strong research orientation, moved from biophysics toward medical oncology, and gradually focused on trials that mattered to patients. The aim was to critique and improve trial design, pushing for outcomes that truly reflect patient benefit rather than solely biological endpoints.
Episode 5 - Dr. Dario Trapani + Dr. Felipe Roitberg
Q: How do you define long-term success beyond publications?
Success is gauged by the systemic changes you influence—such as regulatory decisions, access to high-value medicines, and the ability to shape policy that improves patient outcomes across countries.
Episode 3 - Dr. Christopher Jackson
Q: First, who is your role model?
He looks up to Bishal's clarity and analytical approach, valuing data-first reasoning and patient-centered perspectives.
