Q: How would you describe the overall ambivalence around China's climate policy and its role in the global climate regime?
Merkle explains that China simultaneously expands renewables and coal, making its climate policy complex and not easily categorized; the state uses ambition to signal progress while maintaining strategic economic and security interests.

S03E50 - Aaron Benanav | Beyond Capitalism I
Q: Could you explain why comprehensive central planning isn't the way to go either?
He critiques it for its implementation problems and the authoritarian nature associated with historical examples like the Soviet Union.
S03E50 - Aaron Benanav | Beyond Capitalism I
Q: So, why are both of these approaches not enough, even though important, and what are they missing?
Benanav argues they fail to account for the need for a democratic process to decide between various values and futures.

Q: Could you provide an overview of what you mean by multi-criterial economy?
Benanav describes it as a break from the efficiency-first constraint of capitalism, allowing for an economy organized around multiple human values.
