  • Like a stream-of-consciousness master class in aviation leadership

As a former Marine aviator and now 18-year HEMS pilot, I promise you there’s a gold mine of wisdom behind the microphones here. If you are an outsider listening in, hang on - it’s worth the effort to decipher the lingo. This is NOT the idiot’s guide to USCG aviation; don’t expect a training timeout for Acronyms-101. What you CAN expect is world class aircrew sharing insight with humility and a lot of fun.

  • Excellent

Just found you guys. Really enjoyed the chat with the crew on the Golden Ray case.

Flashback to 72-80 as AD1 at Brooklyn and Astoria. Your guiding the conversation of the crew was spot on to get the real time thoughts and decisions made during SAR.

Keep up the awesome job of bringing what the CG Aviation staff brings to the table. This media is needed and welcomed.

Q: What advice do you have for new aviators entering the field?
Trust the process, and build a solid foundation of knowledge, as it will guide you in unexpected situations.
E98 Air Station San Francisco Inland Cliff Rescue
Q: Is there anything you would have done differently during this rescue operation?
I don't think I would have done anything differently. We were a well-functioning team that made decisions collaboratively during the mission.
E85 CDR Doug Watson (ret.) and CG 6020 Pt. 1
Q: What was the situation like during the Selendang IU grounding?
The mission changed a number of times, it was difficult to keep up with the changes as minute by minute things were evolving.
E85 CDR Doug Watson (ret.) and CG 6020 Pt. 1
Q: What started your journey towards aviation?
I don't even remember. Four years old, five years old, something like that. It's all I've ever known that I wanted to do.
E89: First Responder PTSD
Q: Do you think the Coast Guard is doing a good job or are we moving in the right direction? What do we need to do to get better as an organization and then all the way down to the individual level?
Tons of improvement can be made. There’s a desire to implement programs for mental health support, but we need more resources and a system that tracks traumatic incidents.
