「紅十字會義賣紀念票」是許多台灣五到八年級生的回憶，但紅十字會的歷史卻不為人熟知。中國的紅十字會早在清朝末年就已成立，接著隨政權更迭屢次改名，最後叫「中華民國紅十字會」。另外中國也有自己版本的慈善組織，名為「紅卍字會」。在1949年以後，中華民國與中華人民共和國在各個國際組織爭取會員資格，「國際紅十字會」也是競逐的戰場。
