A big thank you to the 2 wonderful

hosts! They offer great insights into the show and Hawaiian culture and history. I'm not really very familiar with it, so it's very informative and contributes to my enjoyment of the show! They're funny, knowledgeable, and clearly care about the subject matter and care about helping listeners understand the context of what we're watching. • Companion explainer to the show

This podcast offers much needed explanation to numerous scenes in the show. I’m versed in Hawaiian history, and had to go back to historical accounts to understand many of the scenes. I like how the hosts weave Hawaiian history with the show’s need to drive the plot - which compresses the timeline, plays with relationships, and modifies historical figures & some of their actions. Maika’i!

  • Good discussion

I enjoyed the discussion especially because I was surprised at how brutal Kahekili was portrayed. Will we be removing his name from the Oahu highway? And the show also called the Ali’i of O’ahu ‘the boy king.’ I’d never heard Kahahana referred to that way.

I hope future episodes will deal more with the brains not just the brains of the Hawaiian people and chiefly classes
