Elevated Leader Experiences with Laurie Maddalena
Q: How does conflict management fit into everyday leadership?
Conflict is a natural and necessary component of teamwork. The conversation stresses transforming conflict into constructive dialogue through regular coaching, clear feedback, and frameworks that encourage diverse perspectives. This approach helps teams grow and prevents toxicity from taking root when disagreements are left unresolved.
Elevated Leader Experiences with Laurie Maddalena
Q: Can you explain the six saboteurs and how they impact leadership?
The six saboteurs are recurring leadership impediments such as lack of self-awareness, lack of focus, lack of delegation, lack of team engagement, avoidance of conflict, and passive leadership. Laurie emphasizes that recognizing and addressing these is crucial for cultivating a culture where teams feel seen, coached, and empowered to perform at their best.
Elevated Leader Experiences with Laurie Maddalena
Q: What inspired you to write The Elevated Leader?
Laurie describes a need for practical, day-to-day leadership tools beyond theoretical concepts. She wanted to consolidate years of experience into a resource that helps leaders identify and develop the six saboteurs, build essential skills, and create environments where people can grow and contribute meaningfully. The goal is to empower leaders to be more than technically competent; they must coach, mentor, and design better experiences for their teams.
Employee-Centered Leadership with Benjamin Granger
Q: How should organizations balance science-based metrics with the qualitative realities of people at work?
Metrics matter, but they must be used correctly and in context. Leaders should combine validated quantitative methods with qualitative insights to understand the lived experiences of employees, avoiding overreliance on single metrics like NPS when applied to people, and always consider the broader social dynamics at play.
Employee-Centered Leadership with Benjamin Granger
Q: What motivated you to write A Leader Worth Following, and how does it differ from traditional leadership books?
I wanted to translate years of practice and reading across psychology, sociology, and evolutionary theory into practical tools that leaders can use today, especially in uncertain times. The book emphasizes human-centered approaches, ownership, and the idea that leadership is a social and relational act, not just a set of hard skills.
