  • $ paid for by fossil fuels

Not a balanced view of energy. Great there’s another venue for singing the praises of oil and gas and the pain our kids will have to experience to deal with our inability to change and solve

    Problems.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Union Leaders Push Clean Energy Jobs Agenda in Pennsylvania
Q: What does real wage parity mean in this transition?
People transitioning to clean energy jobs must earn wages that allow them to maintain a middle-class lifestyle, similar to their previous jobs in fossil fuels.
The Conflicted Role of Auditors in Carbon Markets
Q: Cynthia, your response was that you're not really that interested in discussing solutions, at least not yet. Why don't you think that acknowledgement has happened?
The industry tends to ignore the underlying issues and insists that auditors ensure integrity, despite ample evidence showing otherwise. Without acknowledgment of the problems, effective solutions cannot occur.
The Conflicted Role of Auditors in Carbon Markets
Q: Cary, could you talk about the self-serving bias and economic self-interest that undermine auditors in the offset market?
Self-serving bias causes auditors to favor the interests of their clients, and economic self-interest influences them to approve more credits for their project developer clients.
The Conflicted Role of Auditors in Carbon Markets
Q: Cynthia, what is the defined role of these auditors within the larger offset ecosystem?
Auditors are tasked with verifying the credits claimed by project developers before a registry approves the credits, but their assessments may be biased as they are paid by the firms they audit.
The Conflicted Role of Auditors in Carbon Markets
Q: Cary, can you tell us a little bit more about what offsets actually are and what has driven the credibility crisis that the offset industry is facing now?
Offsets allow companies to support emissions reductions elsewhere as a way to manage their own emissions, but they have faced a credibility crisis due to overclaiming of reductions.
