  • Edited Interviews

It just sounds like the interviews have the questions edited back in while being read. It doesn’t sound like natural conversation. Interviews like this make it harder to listen for me. Good content though.

  • Great content and great questions from Randy

For anyone considering subscribing- do so. I've learned a lot from Randy's podcasts and have been lucky enough to be interviewed as well. Randy obviously does a lot of thinking about the topic which he is interviewing on, and asks insightful questions. Interviewing for podcasts is a fine art, especially when doing it on opposite sides of the world, and Randy's format works well.

  • Captivating!

I look forward to every episode of the Drone Radio Show. Randy chooses some really fascinating people to interview who show up with a wide-ranging set of skills and knowledge. From a researcher at Duke University who defines the difference between an automated drone and an autonomous drone to people who started their own businesses and shared tips and tricks, his guests will make a listener's day more interesting. Highly recommended.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Smart Materials and the Rise of Ornithopters: Dr. Onur Bilgen, Rutgers University
Q: Do you see your research leading to new materials and design concepts for others to build aircraft, or do you plan to build an aircraft yourselves?
The goal is to develop aircraft within the limits of existing materials, demonstrate lift-to-weight relationships, and progress toward practical, lightweight designs that could eventually carry their own weight as material performance improves.
Smart Materials and the Rise of Ornithopters: Dr. Onur Bilgen, Rutgers University
Q: Tell us about your department and the work you're doing. How does it relate to drones and autonomous systems?
The department covers solid mechanics and fluid dynamics, and drones are viewed as systems where electronics, solids, and fluids interact; the work spans smart materials integration into drones, including both fixed-wing and rotary-wing designs and bio-inspired approaches.
Protecting Stadiums in the Age of Drone Incursions: Melissa Swisher, CRO at SkySafe
Q: What are the biggest gaps in existing drone defense systems?
One major issue is that drone intelligence often remains siloed, preventing comprehensive integration into overall security plans.
Protecting Stadiums in the Age of Drone Incursions: Melissa Swisher, CRO at SkySafe
Q: Melissa, tell us about SkySafe. What does the company do?
SkySafe provides airspace intelligence to help organizations detect drone activity and understand aerial incidents, especially concerning low-altitude airspace.
Making Autonomous Cargo Work at Real-World Scale: Charles Acknin, CEO Skyways
Q: What advice do you have for other entrepreneurs trying to build companies in this space?
Be passionate about your project, and don't give up; resilience is key in the face of challenges.
