“DOWN TO SALLY’S COVE” is a collection of stories about Newfoundland and Labrador by Ella Manuel (1911-1985) and read by me, Antony Berger. I’m the editor of my mother’s writings about the history and rich culture of the places she lived, and the people she knew and loved. New episodes will be uploaded every week until mid-January 2021. The storytelling is enchanting. What's a treasure to have these stories now shared again with us. I only wish for more original recordings of Ella.
Thank you for sharing your mother’s incredible stories. I have lived all over Canada and moved to Newfoundland for work. I have never felt more at home anywhere else. Hearing the way she described the landscape and the feelings it gave her really resonated with me. I have those same feelings every time I head north from port aux basque towards home in the bay of islands. I hope you still have many more of her stories to share.
