Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep19: "White River 2024"
Q: What are your thoughts on training dogs with scent versus sight?
Training with both can be beneficial, but it's important for the dog to have natural ability and to enjoy pleasing the handler.
Ep:2 “Competition vs Pleasure Hounds”
Q: Can a dog be both a pleasure dog and a competition dog?
Yes, a single dog can exhibit traits of both pleasure and competition styles, depending on training and preference of the hunter.
Ep:2 “Competition vs Pleasure Hounds”
Q: What is the main difference between competition hounds and pleasure hounds?
Competition hounds are typically trained to tree coons quickly under pressure, often at the expense of accuracy, while pleasure hounds are preferred for their ability to work tracks and deliver satisfying hunts without necessarily competing.
Ep:8 “ Talking Blueticks with “Ed Mauney”
Q: What dog would you, if you had to, and I know this is kind of an unfair question, but what dog would you think that you would pick as the one that you like the best of the dogs?
If I had to go to a hunt, it would be probably Bobby or Anne Two, and the Gypsy female would be right in there with them.
Ep:8 “ Talking Blueticks with “Ed Mauney”
Q: My question for you, Ed, is what made you go to the bluetick breed? Have you always hunted blueticks, or did you switch over?
I've hunted blueticks since, I guess since I got married, that's 60 years ago. My dad had coon dogs, I'd like to get a coon dog.
