  • Skip the UFC reviews

…lots of other podcasts do it better. If you must do fight sports to pick out the learning points, look at other promotions and other competitive formats. Stick to applied karate and stop gushing over UFC fighters

  • The most frustrating podcast I listen to.

It never fails. Every time a new episode comes out I listen as soon as I can and am always so frustrated! Greg and Sue’s conversations and that of their guests always leave me wishing I was a part of the dialog. Such great chats every time! This is easily one of my most listened to podcasts in my subscription feed. Keep up the great work guys and slip in more episodes of just the two of you chatting. Those are my favorite. ;)

Episode 102 - Japanese Jack Bauer with Sensei Joe Swift
Q: What was the inspiration behind writing a novel, and how does it connect to karate history?
Joe explains he wanted to explore a very different kind of storytelling—an espionage thriller with historical and geographic grounding, inspired by Japan and martial arts lore, while ensuring it integrates authentic locations and intelligence themes.
BONUS #3 - Catching up with Gus Rogers at the Southwest Martial Arts & Wellbeing Show
Q: What was your approach to teaching at the show, given the time constraints of the day?
I aim to lay everything on the table, giving attendees a buffet of techniques and ideas so they can take away something substantial even if they don't master it all in one session.
BONUS #4 - Greg and Joes grading recap
Q: What did Sensei Ian Abernethy focus on during the grading feedback?
He stressed the importance of an exchange of technique, the flow between partners, and asked for specific elements to be demonstrated or clarified, with emphasis on precision and accuracy.
BONUS #4 - Greg and Joes grading recap
Q: Why did you decide to go for this grading together?
We were young, fit, and wanted to do something for a promotional grade together rather than waiting until later, making it a shared milestone.
