Reviews

3.8 out of 5 stars from 10 ratings
  • Good if you want to listen to 20 minute commercials

Control global has some good content on its website, but this podcast feels very forced, generic, and dumbed down. There’s no personality to it, and no intimacy. It’s pretty much just a forum for companies to spew out their latest pitch to anyone who might be listening.

Schneider Electric and Intel: pioneering open automation solutions
Q: Stan, how does the ability to decouple software from hardware provide advantages for operators when it comes to hardware upgrades and protecting IP?
Stan discusses the benefits of hardware/software decoupling, including greater flexibility, stability, agility, and reduced total cost of ownership, along with easier upgrades and reuse of open-source libraries to accelerate development cycles.
Schneider Electric and Intel: pioneering open automation solutions
Q: So how does it, as I mentioned, highlight the benefits of open software defined automation? Andre, why don't we begin with you?
Andre explains that the collaboration began in the Open Process Automation Forum, leveraging the DCN reference design, and focuses on applying Intel's Policy Engine to EcoStruxure Automation Expert to achieve open software defined automation.
Edge-based SCADA: incorporating it into legacy systems
Q: What are the advantages of edge devices for OT to IT data transfer?
Edge devices bring computation closer to data sources, improving processing speed, reducing centralized DB load, enabling local processing and secure data distribution to IT systems via publish-subscribe models and standard formats like JSON or Sparkplug B.
Edge-based SCADA: incorporating it into legacy systems
Q: Why not simply update the localized controller to perform this bridging work?
Localized control remains well-suited for traditional pass-through data sharing, but edge computing enables distributed, event-driven data flows that better support IT integration without overwhelming central databases or compromising control performance.
Can AI help solve industry’s worker shortages?
Q: What is the ideal workforce of the future in the mining, metals industry look like?
The ideal workforce will be hybrid, combining AI-assisted data interpretation and automation with human insights. AI will handle routine data analysis and control tasks, freeing people to focus on higher-value activities, strategy, and problem-solving, while keeping the domain knowledge and safety considerations front and center.
