  • Confession: I’m Starting to Doubt the Authenticity of This Podcast

I have a confession to make. I’ve been listening to the show since it aired, and something just doesn’t sit right with me. It’s not the guests—there are definitely interesting people with insights into the industry—but the confessions themselves. They feel too tailored, too perfect, as if they were written specifically for the guest, rather than being real, authentic stories.

Caroline mentioned that they use ChatGPT to anonymize the confessions, and I can’t help but feel like that’s more than j... more

  • My new favorite podcast

I’m a wedding planner and can relate to so many of the stories told on this podcast about luxury clientele, mistakes made, wild happenings, and I am just so happy this podcast exists. I drive around Napa Valley laughing, sometimes gasping, and loving every minute of listening. Thank you for this candid (and brilliantly framed) confessional - even though I’m in a different industry, I absolutely LOVE it.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

I Confess... Scammed By My Contractor
Q: Can you speak to the difference between working with clients early and the impact of involving a designer from the start?
The guest emphasizes that early designer involvement helps define lifestyle goals and feasibility, improves decision-making, and can lower costs by aligning expectations with architecture, while also noting that good client-designer collaboration benefits from clear onboarding and process.
I Confess... Scammed By My Contractor
Q: Okay. So before we get into the very juicy Confessions, tell us how you got here.
Chandler shares a trajectory from window displays in San Francisco to a formal interior design career, including moving to Santa Fe, starting his own firm in 2013, and evolving from a broad set of projects to a more personally aligned design practice.
I Confess... Felons Are My Niche
Q: What's one small design choice that consistently makes a big difference in accessibility, but most people overlook?
Widening hallways and doors to 36 inches where possible makes a huge difference, especially in larger homes where 30-inch doors are the norm. A grand hallway can feel dramatic and functional at the same time, reinforcing that designing accessibly is not a design constraint but an enhancer to the overall space.
I Confess... Felons Are My Niche
Q: What are some of your favorite ways to bring Aging in Place and Universal Design to your projects, other than what we've spoken about?
I start at the entry, because if you can't get in, nothing else matters. Then I prioritize a ground-floor bedroom and a curbless shower, with the ability to add grab-bar backing anywhere for future flexibility. The key is planning for the worst case—build to the most involved level of disability while still addressing current needs and aesthetics—so the home remains beautiful on all days.
I Confess... Felons Are My Niche
Q: Accessibility is central to your design philosophy. Can you talk a bit about what that looks like in your work and any misconceptions you've run into along the way?
Accessibility in my projects is highly customized to the person and their diagnosis, not a one-size-fits-all rule. It often starts with simple, practical choices—like ensuring entry points are accessible and bathrooms have handheld showers—while keeping the space stylish. A major misconception is that accessibility must look clinical or ugly; in reality, beautiful, thoughtful design can and should accommodate a wide range of needs, including aging in place and daily living needs.
