オランダ船入港や、オランダ商館建設の為に尽力した、平戸開港の恩人「ウィリアム・アダムス、三浦按針」、対馬の宗家に仕えた対馬学問の父と言われた「雨森芳州」、赴任した村を立て直すべく奔走し、人に慕われ見事な業績を残した「賀島兵助」のお話です。
大村藩きっての大功臣、天下の三家老ともいわれ、4代に渡り藩主に仕え、お家存亡の危機を救った際のお話、「大村彦右衛門、泣き柱」と、大村藩の奥州遠征軍三百有余名の中に、父に代わって15歳で鼓手として来媛し戦死した大村藩士「少年鼓手 浜田謹吾」のお話です。
天保の大飢饉、長崎の島原でも同じくして飢饉に見舞われ、人々に物資では無く、干拓による仕事を与え飢饉を乗り越えた「汗の尊さ 中山要左衛門」と、キリシタン大名として知られる原城の主「有馬晴信」のお話です。
キリスト教の信仰を理由に、最高権力者の指令による処刑が初めて行われたのが、豊臣秀吉の命令によって、長崎で処刑された二十六人のカトリック信者。「二十六聖人」のお話です。
鹿児島の甘薯の始まりより、さかのぼる事八十三年、昆陽先生の甘薯栽培よりも百二十年も前に芋を植えた長崎県平戸「甘薯をひろめた人々」と土地の少ない長崎の江の浦、田地開拓千々石湾干拓に尽力された「松本四郎左衛門」のお話です。
“浦上くづれ”の西彼杵黒崎方面キリスト教信者を尋ね、すばらしい景観のこの地こそ、神の教えをひろめる地として、当時貧しかったこの地へ手を差し伸べ、仕事を教え、産業をつくり、この地に生涯をかけた「黒崎の天主、マルコ・ドロ師」のお話です。
フェートン号事件の後、外国船打払令が国中へ発令されましたが、生ぬるいとして、西洋砲術を取り入れ国の守りをかためる提言を行い、西洋の戦術を日本で取り入れた第一人者「西洋砲術の父 高島秋帆」のお話です。
日本で天然痘の予防接種「種痘」を広めた「楢林宗達」と、西洋医学に取組み、医療福祉の祖・公衆衛生行政の創始者等の文献にも記された「長与専斎」のお話です。
