Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

After Dreaming of Jesus, This South Korean Became Catholic
Q: What role did RCIA and the sacraments play in your conversion?
RCIA was revisited multiple times as she sought truth, with a dream guiding her to follow the Lord; the sacraments, especially reconciliation and the Eucharist, provided ongoing grace and peace that solidified her faith and led to a deepening of her commitment, including open to life and eventual catechesis teaching.
After Dreaming of Jesus, This South Korean Became Catholic
Q: How did your faith journey begin and what sparked the initial openness to God?
She describes growing up with no faith, a grandmother who disliked the word God, a prayer about her father's smoking that unexpectedly influenced him after years, and a gradual realization that God might be real and good, leading to an openness to explore Christianity.
From Haight-Ashbury to Rome: Dave Johns' Conversion Story
Q: What finally convinced you to commit to the Catholic Church after exploring other traditions?
The realization that the Catholic Church offered a continuous, historical lineage back to Jesus, plus meaningful encounters with knowledgeable teachers like Deacon Jeffrey and the tangible experience of sacraments, especially the warmth of baptism and the presence of Christ in the Eucharist, convinced me that this was home and where I could best serve others.
From Haight-Ashbury to Rome: Dave Johns' Conversion Story
Q: So Dave, how did your faith journey start and what pulled you toward truth?
I began with a broad curiosity about religion and history, exploring Buddhist ideas through martial arts, attending diverse churches, and looking for a coherent story that connected scripture with life. Over time, the personal experiences in Methodist and Baptist communities, plus conversations with LDS friends, led me to seek a faith with rooted history and strong authority—culminating in Catholic belief.
Why a Lifelong Mormon Entered a Catholic Church
Q: What specific moments or information helped you realize Catholicism was where you belonged?
A pivotal moment was watching a God moment on EWTN with Marcus Grodi's Coming Home program, where a former Mormon explained differences in doctrine, including polygamy, the nature of God, and Mary; the more I researched, the more I found that Catholic teaching offered historical continuity, reverence in liturgy, and the true belief in the Eucharist that I had been missing in Mormon practice.
