  • great content, juvenile banter

perhaps the scripted and painful banter between the two co-hosts will appeal to some listeners, but it is sometimes cringe-worthy and always irritating. i listen anyway, because the content of the show is terrific. but the podcast could be so much better if the hosts did not try to be cute.

  • Frustrated at the chitchat

Interesting topics covered but I half the time is wasted by nonsense chitchat.

Mathematics & Gambling Episode
Q: What makes the Kelly Criterion appealing to gamblers and investors alike, and what are its limitations?
It provides a mathematically grounded way to optimize bets given win probability and payoff but does not guarantee winning chances and can still lead to losses if probabilities are misestimated or constraints limit bets.
Mathematics & Gambling Episode
Q: Do betting systems like the Martingale actually work over the long term?
No system changes the fundamental expected value; Martingale may appear to work in the short term, but table limits and finite wealth prevent guaranteed profits, making long-term success unattainable.
Mathematics & Gambling Episode
Q: What are the economics behind the buzzwords we see in gambling offers, like sign-up bonuses and matched bets?
The economics center on keeping players engaged, moving them to place additional bets, and depositing more money over time, even when bonuses are restricted or non-withdrawable, which ultimately benefits the betting platforms.
Emerging Technologies Episode 1: Quantum Information Science
Q: Why focus on dark matter in the first place?
Understanding dark matter is important for the cosmological evolution of the universe and could reveal more about the origins of the universe.
Emerging Technologies Episode 1: Quantum Information Science
Q: What exactly is the holdup with quantum computing despite knowing how to build them?
The construction of qubits is expensive and challenging, and there's a need to further develop theoretical and mathematical foundations in the field.
