  • Fantastic Information!! A+ A+ A+

This podcast is filled with great information on about everything you need to know about raising and keeping your poultry in top condition. It doesn’t even need to have feathers for this material to relate to many other things. I’m grateful for the information I have taken from here and hoping too take it to the next level by joining the Academy soon.

  • Really is the only podcast of its kind.

An absolute wealth of knowledge with a focus on science and evolutionary understanding of poultry and game fowl genetics. The format is very upbeat, great conversation, everyone brings something special to the show, if your not a serious breeder you may be offended from time to time. Top notch. My only wish is that they spoke more of blue genes, would love an episode just on that.

  • Helpful but repetitive

I was finding this podcast helpful

It ends up just being repetitive with a lot of re run episodes being listed as a “bonus” rather than a new fresh episode, it’s a podcast we can re run an episode whenever we like!

  • The best!

This podcast is amazing! I find myself listening to it all the time, the information that is put out by Kenny and the rest of the crew is high quality and I would (and do) recommend it to anyone that breeds livestock not just chickens.

Nutrition is vital to allowing the bird to reach its full genetic potential, affecting growth and overall health.
Ep273 - The Importance of Test Matings and Testing the Progeny
Q: Is test mating a part of gene shopping?
Yes, test mating and test crossing are important for a gene shopping program.
Ep272 - Improving Your Bloodline: Breeding and Health Care Q&A
Q: If I make two families off one rooster and follow the breeders program, at what point are they pure enough that when I cross them to make a hybrid instead of or a mongrel?
The purer they are, the better hybrid vigor you're going to get. If you start crossing other birds into those, you move from hybridization to mongrelization.
Ep271 - CLEANING UP THE GENE POOL - Essential Steps to Purify Your Bloodline and Create the Strain You Desire
Q: Can side sprigs on combs be separately bred out?
Since it's a monogenic trait, if I can't find any birds that don't have it, then I've got a problem, because I want to get rid of the birds that are expressing it.
Ep271 - CLEANING UP THE GENE POOL - Essential Steps to Purify Your Bloodline and Create the Strain You Desire
Q: What is the most important to know about performance, production ability, health vigor, type of conformation, color plumage, temperament, behaviors, breeding characteristics?
It's almost in the total package, actually. It's almost in the order that I put them on that list.
