  • Fantastic Information!! A+ A+ A+

This podcast is filled with great information on about everything you need to know about raising and keeping your poultry in top condition. It doesn’t even need to have feathers for this material to relate to many other things. I’m grateful for the information I have taken from here and hoping too take it to the next level by joining the Academy soon.

  • Really is the only podcast of its kind.

An absolute wealth of knowledge with a focus on science and evolutionary understanding of poultry and game fowl genetics. The format is very upbeat, great conversation, everyone brings something special to the show, if your not a serious breeder you may be offended from time to time. Top notch. My only wish is that they spoke more of blue genes, would love an episode just on that.

  • Helpful but repetitive

I was finding this podcast helpful

It ends up just being repetitive with a lot of re run episodes being listed as a “bonus” rather than a new fresh episode, it’s a podcast we can re run an episode whenever we like!

  • The best!

This podcast is amazing! I find myself listening to it all the time, the information that is put out by Kenny and the rest of the crew is high quality and I would (and do) recommend it to anyone that breeds livestock not just chickens.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep260 - Managing the Molt: The Costly Mistake of Cutting Protein and Weight
Q: What do you think is the reason why you should bring your protein levels down during the molt?
There's a theory that lower protein diminishes the heat created by the molt, but it doesn't always hold true. A lot depends on how the birds are managed on a dietary basis.
Ep257 - Breeding Terms Simplified
Q: What causes the pattern difference between a Dominique Chicken and a Cuckoo Moran?
They're completely different breeds, and you can't mix them to enhance each other.
Ep257 - Breeding Terms Simplified
Q: Can I make a family out of one of these?
Yes, you can create a family from anything as long as the birds have the traits you're looking for.
Ep254 - Breeding Practices Simplified
Q: When is a good time to out-cross?
Out-crossing should be done cautiously and is usually considered when the current line isn't expressing desired traits. It's best to start with unrelated birds and experiment separately from the foundation line.
Ep254 - Breeding Practices Simplified
Q: How can I maximize a trio for breeding?
Select birds within the desired weight range, focusing on good health and vigor, and ensure they're exhibiting the traits you want.
