  • Fantastic Information!! A+ A+ A+

This podcast is filled with great information on about everything you need to know about raising and keeping your poultry in top condition. It doesn’t even need to have feathers for this material to relate to many other things. I’m grateful for the information I have taken from here and hoping too take it to the next level by joining the Academy soon.

  • Really is the only podcast of its kind.

An absolute wealth of knowledge with a focus on science and evolutionary understanding of poultry and game fowl genetics. The format is very upbeat, great conversation, everyone brings something special to the show, if your not a serious breeder you may be offended from time to time. Top notch. My only wish is that they spoke more of blue genes, would love an episode just on that.

  • Helpful but repetitive

I was finding this podcast helpful

It ends up just being repetitive with a lot of re run episodes being listed as a “bonus” rather than a new fresh episode, it’s a podcast we can re run an episode whenever we like!

  • The best!

This podcast is amazing! I find myself listening to it all the time, the information that is put out by Kenny and the rest of the crew is high quality and I would (and do) recommend it to anyone that breeds livestock not just chickens.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep298 - The Progressive White Debate: Science vs. Tradition
Q: What should breeders prioritize: show color or true standard perfection?
Breeders should prioritize standard perfection and genetic purity over showy color, because maintaining the true breed standard ensures health, fertility, and long-term viability of the birds.
Ep298 - The Progressive White Debate: Science vs. Tradition
Q: Can you ever completely remove Progressive White from a line?
It's extremely difficult and often requires abandoning lines that carry the trait, as some birds can appear white only after years of exposure and the underlying problem is epigenetic or environmental, not a straightforward gene.
Ep297 – Building a True Strain: The Long Game of Creating a Consistent and Lasting Line
Q: How do I know when I've created a true breeding strain?
Uniformity, predictability, and repeatability are the hallmarks; generations should reproduce their parents' traits consistently, with fixed genetics guiding the offspring and avoiding surprises or deleterious genes.
Ep295 - Progressive White - The Silent Threat to Breeding American Games
Q: Is it possible to create a strain starting from a trio that does not match the proper type?
Yes, you can create a strain from mismatched birds by selecting the best representatives, but it's risky; you should focus on birds that best represent the breed and, if possible, use a coaching call through the Founders Program to ensure alignment.
Ep293 - Purity and Show Go Hand-in-Hand: Why the Best Birds Are Always One Bird
Q: Should broodfowl be shown or kept separate, and how should one choose which birds to take to a show?
Do not take broodfowl to shows; select the best birds (A/B/C tiers) for different purposes, but always prioritize the complete package—conformation, health, and breed integrity—over a single trait.
