Borderline is a place for those who know that human belonging is, and always has been, complex. I love its celebration of multiple identities and affiliations, and the way it offers a space for resisting the claim that belonging must be both simple and single. In a world of increasingly hard borders, projects like this have never been more necessary.
For the past eleven years I have lived a life across borders, with family and friends spread across the globe. I thrived on the idea of being a global citizen, learning from and giving back to different cultures. The Borderline pod is authentic and raw, it's also purpose-driven - it asks difficult questions about global life with borders to navigate and introduces you to interesting people with original takes on this subject. I listen to a lot of podcasts, and many of them feel same-y, but not Borderline. I highly recommend it, as it also comes with a very informative and engaging newsletter.
For those of us who choose to move away from our country of birth, it can hurt when others mislabel us as having no sense of ‘home’. This podcast does a brilliant job of refuting the myth that we can’t have more than one home in the world. Isabelle is intelligent and compassionate, and her conversations with fellow global citizens are insightful and comforting. I highly recommend listening!
What I like is that Isabelle makes the most of where she’s placed in
the world. As diasporas and people in transit become more and more the
norm the things Isabelle picks up on (and sets down in tight, lucid
prose) are continually interesting. Plus there is no simple-minded
agenda…
