I got into Black Flare after hearing a promo on Shrimp and Crits and I’m glad I did. The characters have great chemistry and the Handler knows how to ratchet up the tension. The addition of the Executive Producer as some NPCs is a great touch as well. The sound design is amazing, from the theme song to then in-episode and incidental music to the sound effects. I especially love how at the beginning of each episode, each player recounts an interesting (or sometimes not so interesting) fact abo... more
The players and Handler (as well as Caleb) are great at what they do. The inter-party dynamics are fun, intriguing, and in plenty of cases, high-stakes. They are building a larger story here, an ongoing campaign with twists and turns. The first story that’s out now is fun, creepy, and also a bit cozy.
Plus, gotta represent Minnesota-based podcasting. Keep up the great works, folks! Can’t wait for season 2!

This show centers on a Delta Green actual-play campaign with a heavy emphasis on suspense, tactical improvisation, and eldritch-inflected investigations. Episodes blend careful planning, moral ambiguity, and high-stakes action as players navigate conspiratorial cults, occult symbols, and dangerous environments, all while exploring the characters' past traumas and evolving loyalties. A standout is the strong character dynamics and production quality, including sound design and a cinematic feel that helps the listener stay immersed across serialized mysteries. The format often combines procedural sleuthing with horror, giving listeners a rich, world-building experience that rewards long-term engagement for fans of tabletop storytelling and im... more
