Q: Coach, can you talk about just the game plan, coming into the game, and how you guys were able to control the clock, and how you thought maybe that kept you in it?
The plan was to win and manage conditions up front; we knew there would be mismatches on the lines, and we aimed to win those battles to keep momentum and stay in the game.
Montana Griz press conference - Bobby Kennedy, Eli Gillman & Tyler King plus Drake's Matt Walker
Q: Tyler, what was it like going up against a tempo-heavy offense and how did you adjust midgame?
Tyler explained the preparation and communication adjustments, acknowledging the tempo but noting the defense managed it through discipline, good calls, and timing to stay in the game and create stops.
Montana Griz press conference - Bobby Kennedy, Eli Gillman & Tyler King plus Drake's Matt Walker
Q: Eli, can you talk about what it meant to break that record and how your preparation and teammates helped you reach it?
Eli conveyed that while the record felt surreal, it was the result of hard work, strong practice habits, and the overall team effort, with teammates celebrating together and the coaching staff supporting his development.
Montana Griz press conference - Bobby Kennedy, Eli Gillman & Tyler King plus Drake's Matt Walker
Q: Coach, what are your thoughts on how you capitalized offensively and adjusted after the big pace the opponents brought?
The coach described adapting to tempo, executing fourth-down decisions aggressively, and leveraging the team's practice to prepare for a fast-paced attack, while noting that offensive calls would vary to fit the game's tempo and limit mistakes.
Ridin' with Rider - Michael Rider on Montana State's hot start and defensive depth
Q: What did you think about opening week and playing a conference opponent right away?
It creates a different dynamic and raises the stakes earlier in fall camp, signaling how teams must prepare and respond with urgency and depth, which MSU seems to handle well with their diverse personnel.
