“I forgot it’s not just us talking.” So says gaming academic Nathan Altice during the first episode of this fascinating discussion podcast in which Liz Ryerson and eloquent expert guests dive into a sea of wondrous topics, from the problems with uncritical ‘retro’ gaming to how first-wave vaporwave music critiques capitalist structures
This podcast is great! It's a really interesting look into the areas of the web that were lost in the transformation from Web 1.0 into Web 2.0 and how class, race, and all that good sociological stuff has shaped that shift. Good stuff! It's a great antidote to the naive boomer belief that anybody could pick up a guitar, post a song to the web, and become a rockstar that was everywhere around the turn of the millennium.
Formatted through interviews, each show discusses media proliferation and changed interactivty in online spaces. Music, games, LGBTQ+ culture, anti-capitalism.
