  • The Chair

This podcast is great. I’ve been listening for a few months and enjoying it more with each episode. Today I finished listening to them do an abbreviated, live, very unserious play of a modified version of The Chair and I learned so much in spite of (perhaps because of?) how fast and loose they were playing. It was hilarious yet educational. Brad kept the pace moving by asking for quick simple inputs. What a blast. Thanks guys!

  • Awesome podcast

This is seriously an awesome podcast. I love the crack between these guys! And you always know what you’re getting: a professional level review of the production and game-table value of a product, so you can avoid the ones that are not your thing. I listen to this all the time now and ALWAYS before I buy anything!

  • B2C: So Hot!

This is my favorite folklore, etymology, “When I was a child…” podcast that also reviews old-school rpg modules.

Came for the reviews. Stayed for the banter.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Into The Fog
Q: Lou asks about translating adventures into French and other languages; how much translation impacts gameplay?
The hosts discuss that language translation often changes flavor and legibility, with technical terms, rhymes, and puns presenting challenges, while core mechanics can remain intact; players may not be paying attention to accuracy beyond readability, and editors/ translators need to preserve atmosphere.
From the Vault: The Story of Tannic
Q: What do you hope players take away from the end dungeon and the overall experience?
The target is a sense of humanity and consequence, where the choices feel real and the mystery lingers, rather than providing all the answers or a neatly resolved ending.
From the Vault: The Story of Tannic
Q: How did playtesting shape Tannic, especially regarding the risk to player characters?
Playtests showed that while the core group enjoyed exploration and atmosphere, the creators learned to balance tension with opportunities for meaningful decisions, ensuring not every session ends in a deathly outcome.
From the Vault: The Story of Tannic
Q: What inspired you to write a forest crawl as a 'forest crawl' rather than a traditional hex crawl?
Amanda explains the desire to blend atmosphere with player-driven possibilities, drawing from real landscapes and personal memories to create a coherent, immersive space rather than focusing on rigid grid-based mechanics.
Tragedy at Zaya's Theater
Q: Does having to change a module reduce its greatness?
No, the idea is that good modules can be adapted: changes can fix issues or better fit a table's playstyle, and that adaptability is not a mark against the module's intrinsic quality.
