  • I was grouchy and wrong; this podcast is jazz

The spaces between the content are as important as the content. This podcast is TTRPG jazz.

  • Meandering but ultimately worth it

They offer really good commentary on OSR modules, but don’t expect more than half of the episode to be about TTRPGs at all. You’ll often find yourself wondering “Am I going to hear about Topic of Episode at all, before the end?”

  • If NPR reviewed ttrpg modules

Do you like NPR’s Pop Culture Happy Hour but wish the hosts didn’t do any research first? Are you put off by how empathetic and likable Ira Glass seems? Are you still waiting for All Things Considered to consider if system matters? Then check out Between Two Cairns.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Fragments of the Floating City
Q: How do you onboard new players for a single session into a pre-existing campaign?
The strategy is to provide them with the bare minimum information needed to understand the immediate situation their character is in, rather than delving into the lore and major players.
BSOLO Ghost of Lion Castle
Q: Power Wash Simulator 2's new soap mechanics. So hot or so not?
It's a fun addition, and I look forward to diving into it on the sequel.
BSOLO Ghost of Lion Castle
Q: Do you think understanding the original rulesets helps understand the OSR play style?
Yes, it helps appreciate modern game design and gives a sense of what it was like to play back then.
Turn it Off
Q: What's your take on the reaction roll in general?
It's at least a fun reminder to think about attitudes before getting into combat or diplomacy.
The Ghosts of Zoazanna Mountain
Q: What methods have you found to be the most effective as designers in the RPG space?
Engaging with communities at conventions and giving away samples often works better than any other marketing method.
