  • B2C: So Hot!

This is my favorite folklore, etymology, “When I was a child…” podcast that also reviews old-school rpg modules.

Came for the reviews. Stayed for the banter.

  • They actually review things!

A lot of RPG pods are actually just chat shows. Like they say they’re discussing something and then they just go on tangents for an hour. Between Two Cairns has a format, they use it to critically assess RPG modules, and along the way you’ll learn all kinds of stuff about how the games are played, how the products are made and sold and who the creators are. They also have a very particular banter that is an acquired taste, but is truly hilarious once you settle in. If you are interested in RPGs,... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Tragedy at Zaya's Theater
Q: Does having to change a module reduce its greatness?
No, the idea is that good modules can be adapted: changes can fix issues or better fit a table's playstyle, and that adaptability is not a mark against the module's intrinsic quality.
The Rook & the Crook
Q: Brad, what's really going on here?
The two towers are manifestations of alternate versions of two Nages trying to free an imprisoned god named Stolas; the tower setup is a device to draw power and is linked to a ritual requiring acts like aging rooms and using tools to either strengthen the cage or expel Stolas.
Red Gwen's Bandit Hideout
Q: What makes Red Gwen's Bandit Hideout a good fit for Dolmenwood?
Its treetop, hex-centric layout suits a fairy-tale fantasy setting with clear hooks, a memorable antagonist, and a visually engaging map that can be dropped into Dolmenwood campaigns without heavy prepped material.
What Lies Within the Pools Which Lie Upon the Shoreline?
Q: How do Karen and other OSR variants address party composition and dead character replacement in longer campaigns?
They discuss Beckme and OSR variants as more permissive about retooling or substituting classes, and highlight Cairn's approach where there are fewer strict class constraints, focusing on what the party needs and what makes the game fun rather than rigid archetypes.
Leviathan
Q: Do you roll reaction rolls for each individual monster or as a whole?
They prefer rolling for the group as a whole, with the possibility of a dissenting member to add texture, but generally keep reactions as a group mechanic.
