今年のタイの夏（３～５月ごろ）は暑さが厳しく、エアコン使用による電力消費も増大しているが、エネルギー省によれば、４月27日に過去最高の電力消費３万6356メガワットを記録した。今夏は電力消費の最高記録がすでに複数回塗り替えられているが、27日の電力消費はさらに増大しており、22日に記録された過去最高消費量を上回っている。気象局によれば、27日に国内で観測された最高気温は44度。また、保健省によれば、暑さが原因の死亡は、昨年が37人だったが、今年はすでに30人近くに達している。
タイ国スポーツ局（SAT）によれば、バンコク都プラナコン区のラタナコーシン島にモータースポーツ専用のサーキットを設けられ、F1レースが開催される見通しという。開催に向けた準備には３～４年かかる見通しという。ラタナコーシン島は、王宮、サナムルアン（王宮前広場）、広大な寺院建築群などのある地区で、このエリアがチャオプラヤ川と運河で囲まれていることから「島」という名称が付いている。
国立公園野生動植物保護局はこのほど、北部チェンマイ県のチェンダオ野生動植物保護区で人為的とみられる火災が複数確認されたことから、この保護区を閉鎖することを決めた。同局のアタポン局長によれば、火災を含む保護区に関連する様々な問題を当局が解決できるまで保護区は閉鎖される予定。同保護区では現在、国立公園事務所が野生動植物に影響を及ぼす可能性のある問題の調査を行っている。 同局長は、「保護区内に自生している貴重な植物が人為的な火災によって絶滅の危機に瀕している。早急に対策を講ずる必要がある」と述べている... more
これまで副首相兼外相を務めてきたパンプリー氏は内閣改造人事が官報で発表された４月28日、改造で副首相兼任を外されたことを不満として、セーター首相に辞表を提出し、すぐに外相辞任が認められた。パンプリー氏が報道陣に語ったところによれば、副首相と外相の役割をきっちり果たしてきたという自負があり、実績不足で副首相ポストから外されたとは考えにくいという。
