Reviews

4.5 out of 5 stars from 16 ratings
  • Great show, problematic topic

Well done, accessible reviews. The host are clearly knowledgeable. I’d love to have them include a discussion of the ethics of overpowered and/or very expensive cars in a time of rampant inequality and environmental degradation. I all for people making whatever decisions they want to but feel those decisions should be made with knowledge of their full implications.

Jack and Chris gave candid and balanced reviews of the Volkswagen Jetta and Hyundai Sonata Hybrid they were covering, and their positioning the cars in relation to the Tesla S and the oncoming E-vehicle entries was particularly useful. Electric cars are certainly coming, but the transition from IC engines will take time, especially in more rural settings such as Teague’s. And the interview with Ms. Moreo of Nissan provided good insight into Nissan’s marketing of the new Rogue. An excellent show.... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Is the 2027 Dodge Charger Scat Pack the Most Sophisticated Musclecar Ever?
Q: Are touch screens in new cars making driving less safe, given the increase in screen size?
The hosts acknowledge that while large screens can be safe if interfaces are intuitive and distractions are minimized, there is a risk when drivers use screens for essential controls that could be handled with physical buttons. They recommend simpler, discrete controls for critical functions to reduce distraction.
2025 Subaru Impreza RS: Who Says Affordable Can’t be Fun?
Q: Are modern cars more expensive to maintain than older ones?
Both hosts agree that modern cars tend to last longer due to advanced engineering, but parts and specialized services can be more expensive; the overall maintenance cost depends on the model, parts availability, and whether the owner can perform DIY tasks or relies on dealers.
Driving Coolest Car You’ve Never Heard Of: 2026 Lexus LC 500 Convertible
Q: Are new turbo four-cylinders actually better than the older V6 engines?
The hosts and guest agree turbo fours are more fuel-efficient and offer lower emissions, but emphasize that naturally aspirated engines like V6s and V8s have advantages in linear power delivery and potentially longevity; overall, turbos are advantageous for fuel economy but may come with drivetrain stress and longevity considerations.
Is the Mazda3 2.5 S Carbon Edition the Best-Value Premium Compact Sedan?
Q: Why does the service light on Manny's 2011 Volkswagen Jetta keep turning on and off?
The check engine light can indicate a range of issues from a loose fuel cap to an exhaust leak or more serious engine problems; the recommended approach is to pull codes with an OBD2 reader or have a parts store scan it, then address the specific fault.
2026 Genesis G80 3.5T Sport Prestige AWD Guns for BMW, Mercedes-Benz
Q: What is the best car for long highway commutes?
A hybrid or highly fuel-efficient four-cylinder is recommended, as these options offer better efficiency on highway drives and avoid range concerns associated with some plug-in EVs, making them more practical for commuting.
