Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Rocket Propulsion, AI, and the Future of Engineering Workflows
Q: What is ground truth in this context, and why is it important for AI in aerospace design?
Ground truth refers to the verified, approved design data stored in PLM systems like TeamCenter, which AI can verify against to ensure outputs are trustworthy and auditable, not just probabilistic guesses.
Radiation-Tolerant Microcontrollers for Expanding LEO Satellite Network
Q: What is the current status of the VA4 family in the market, and are you seeing demand from commercial or defense customers to use it on new LEO satellites?
The VA4 family has been widely adopted since its late-2024/early-2025 rollout, with the red-heart part seen in GEO platforms and growing adoption of the LEO-tuned parts in major constellations. Demand from both commercial and defense customers is strong, and there is a clear trajectory toward broader terrestrial applications as well.
Radiation-Tolerant Microcontrollers for Expanding LEO Satellite Network
Q: How were you able to achieve cost savings with this technology, and how does the cost of the VA4 family compare to traditional microcontrollers?
By offering a scalable radiation-tolerant platform with a toolbox approach, we provide versions that are 100% software-, pin-, and electrically-compatible across radiation environments, which lowers redevelopment costs. The VA4 family shows roughly a 75% price difference between the highest- and lowest radiation-performing parts, meaning customers get similar functionality at a substantially lower cost for less harsh radiation scenarios.
Radiation-Tolerant Microcontrollers for Expanding LEO Satellite Network
Q: Could you first explain to our audience who may be unfamiliar, what is a microcontroller and what functionality does it provide for satellites and other spacecraft?
A microcontroller is a small computer chip that runs software, combines a processor core (ARM in our systems), memory, peripherals, and interfaces to control subsystems. In a satellite it typically handles power systems, sensors, watchdogs, thermal conditions, and coordinates communication between subsystems, providing embedded intelligence within subsystems.
How AI Acceleration Strategies Are Changing Embedded Computing Architectures
Q: Who are some of maybe the A&D and users of your products, and what are some of the applications that they're deploying your solutions into?
Applications range from compact embedded computers in agricultural drones processing camera feeds for crop health, to onboard computers in police helicopters delivering live map overlays, and fire-watch systems on airplanes, illustrating a diverse set of rugged, field-ready solutions.
