  • Great.

This is a great resource for undergrads like myself thinking about getting into the progression.

    Two suggestions:

    1) Any insight on what the job actually looks like day to day would be awesome for us on the outside.

    2) Podcasts are long format friendly. Consider going for an hour to get a bit more in depth.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Policy Update: Representing the U.S. Actuarial Perspective Globally
Q: When actuaries think of their role globally, do they understand the landscape that encompasses what are called supernationals and international actuarial organizations?
Lisa describes how many Academy members work for international firms, the cross-border nature of work, and the need for awareness of non-US regulatory frameworks and international accounting standards in financial reporting and solvency.
Policy Update: Representing the U.S. Actuarial Perspective Globally
Q: Can you just explain to the listeners what this committee is and how it relates to international issues?
Will explains that the Credential Regulation Committee drives solvency and capital issues across all practice areas, provides expert input to national and international bodies, and acts as a primary resource for US actuaries in regulatory discussions and cross-border matters.
Managing Risk in a World of Polycrisis with Rade Musulin
Q: What lessons from climate risk apply to geopolitical and other interconnected risks?
Climate risk teaches the use of scenarios, systems thinking, and continuous scenario refresh to connect climate effects with capital, reinsurance, and resilience; these approaches transfer to how we handle geopolitical and other interlinked risks.
Managing Risk in a World of Polycrisis with Rade Musulin
Q: You've mentioned polycrisis; what does that mean and why should actuaries care?
Polycrisis describes interacting risks that amplify one another, such as energy, inflation, and supply-chain disruptions; actuaries should care because these interdependencies alter how risks propagate and affect insurance, capital, and governance.
The Hidden Cost of Complexity: Pietro Parodi on Smarter Actuarial Models
Q: What is the bigger risk to insurers, overestimating the long-term impact of GLP-1s or underestimating it?
Parodi would be cautious, waiting for population-level data before revising risk estimates and premiums, to avoid overreacting based on controlled data environments.
