  • Highly recommend

Growing up I had always struggled with anxiety and depression and how to cope with them. Throughout my childhood I have at least met six therapist who could only help for a brief time. We would at least have one to three appointments as far as I remember and then never see each other again. This made it easy to grow tired of searching and eventually gave up. I still managed to navigate through life as a deaf person with anxiety and depression just from the unconditional love that my parents gave... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Teaching Children “Grit” with Beth Canalichio
Q: How can parents foster grit in everyday moments like chores or dealing with boredom without rescuing their kids?
Encourage kids to brainstorm solutions, validate their feelings, provide gentle structure, and gradually increase responsibility—backed by what you teach them and follow-through on boundaries and consequences.
Teaching Children “Grit” with Beth Canalichio
Q: Can you explain that a little bit more like an example of how a kid misbehaving might trigger a parent's inner reaction and a healthier adult response?
A common pattern is a parent feeling overly involved or embarrassed on the sidelines; the healthy response is to pause, reflect on why it's upsetting, and choose a calm, constructive intervention that validates the child and sets clear expectations.
Depression in Adolescent Boys
Q: What are the main areas you focus on when talking about teen mental health and suicide prevention?
The host and guest describe three overlapping areas—men's mental health, young men's mental health, and suicide prevention—each with its own nuances, yet interconnected in how we address emotional expression, vulnerability, and safety.
Moms Hierarchy of Needs with Leslie Forde
Q: Talk to me about little things that moms can do to start shifting toward taking care of themselves.
Leslie recommends choosing a daily self-care activity that is accessible, such as a 20-minute walk or a short run, and adapting it to fit seasonal or schedule variations, with a plan that can be scaled down if needed—emphasizing consistency and flexibility.
Gentle Parenting: CPS Solutions with Kim Hopkins LCSW
Q: So can you explain to us what that means exactly and how it shapes the approach to parenting and discipline when we think about kids doing the best that they can?
The CPS model uses the lens that kids do well if they can, meaning we look for the skills they're missing and the obstacles in their environment, then design interventions that help them build those skills so they can meet expectations in the future.
