  • All about technology

This is a fantastic program and the crowd at the DODROPIN Radio Network do a fantastic job each Tuesday evening putting this show off live at 7 PM Eastern. There are many connection points and him radio modes by which you can participate if you are a licensed ham radio operator.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

New Hams - 03/03/2026
Q: What is the best way to get started with digital modes on a low-power setup?
Focus on confirming equipment setup (sound card, PTT) and use recommended software; ensure time synchronization and seek guidance from other hams via the link page for references.
Antennas - 02/17/2026
Q: What's the most effective way to set up counterpoises for a multi-band vertical
The guest explained that counterpoises should be near a quarter-wavelength for each band, and that clamp-on ferrites can be used to adapt long counterpoises to shorter bands, though this can introduce losses and requires careful adjustment.
Linux & Astronomy - 5/13/2025
Q: Why should I learn Linux if I am happy with Windows?
Linux can offer a performance increase and security benefits over Windows, which has more bloat and privacy concerns.
Linux & Astronomy - 5/13/2025
Q: What would be the best radio for a new ham to upgrade to?
A great choice for a new ham radio operator is the ICOM IC2730A or the Yeasu 991A.
Linux / Astronomy - 06/03/2024
Q: What is the best way to protect the feed line for upper antennas mounted close to lower antennas?
You should keep the antennas at least a few feet apart to avoid interaction and consider using ferrite beads on the feed line.
