A Degree Absolute!

Chris Klimek & Glen Weldon
TV ReviewsTV & FilmAfter Shows

Critics Chris Klimek and Glen Weldon both loved the late-60s British sci-fi series "The Prisoner" in their formative years, but they haven't seen it in a long time and they're not at all sure how it will play in a 21st century rife with with "alternative facts" and militant individualism at the expense of social responsibility. One thing is certain: Run-DMC were clearly influenced by the vocal patterns of Patrick McGoohan, and that malicious weather balloon is still eerie as hell. Wait, that's two things. Join them for this illuminating rewatch!

C’mon there now way he wasn’t! It’s the bit they don’t show. He resigns, yer man says ‘actually you’re fired’. Six breaks the teacups and insists he got there first. It kicks off. Cut to hearse. more

Okay, I think the whole village thang is a fever, drugged dream. I think the only ‘real’ episode is Once Upon a Time. more

  • Best theme song since Gilligan’s Island!

You don’t even have to like the Prisoner to enjoy this podcast, but if you listen closely you may discover the secret of the village. The hosts themselves haven’t revealed it yet and likely have no idea, but they have alluded to the truth on several occasions. So here it is. The village is another part of Twin Peaks’ own Black lodge. Thus, whereas Twin Peaks showcases the Red Room, the Prisoner showcases the Village, equally creepy and dream-distorted traps.
