Critics Chris Klimek and Glen Weldon both loved the late-60s British sci-fi series "The Prisoner" in their formative years, but they haven't seen it in a long time and they're not at all sure how it will play in a 21st century rife with with "alternative facts" and militant individualism at the expense of social responsibility. One thing is certain: Run-DMC were clearly influenced by the vocal pat... more

Absolutely terrific podcast on the subject of the classic 1960s spy-fi drama The Prisoner, and the twisted legend that was Patrick McGoohan. There is insight and humour regarding every episode of the series and on Paddy McG's big screen appearances (he was the best bits of Braveheart. I will die on this hill). Well worth (Mrs Butterworth) a listen or indeed a re-listen. Thanks again folks. By the way, that podcast theme never gets dull. Be seeing you!
The Prisoner merits a rewatch. But it’s better to have this podcast to commiserate over which parts are amazing vs ridiculous.
This podcast has kept me company through many late night feedings, and the warm and back and forth between Glen and Chris is always enjoyable. However, twice now, Glen Weldon has said something so unexpectedly hilarious that I have laughed out loud while trying to get my baby to sleep, with dire consequences. So, enjoy this podcast, but beware!
If you have the slightest interest in The Prisoner, this is where to get your information. And pure entertainment. I love Glenn’s Patty McG impressions and Chris’s inimitable intro.
Thanks, guys!
My take: there is no mastermind behind the Village, no shadowy cabal of puppet masters. Rather, a handful of dysfunctional egomaniacs grub for power, fighting for control of a system none of them really understands. Perhaps the Village had a single purpose, once, but it's been suborned, perverted, and added to so many times that no-one remembers what the point of it is anymore. It's not unreasonable to assume that the Village masters would deploy Village superscience against each other, as a pol... more
