  • Interview we’ll done

Mike was a pleasure to talk to. I was extra pleased to see one of my favorite musicians Robert Walter on the episode after mine, and to hear the show was voted in as a top 100 podcast.

Keep going man. Beautiful production and curation.

  • I love this podcast.

I love this podcast. The more I listen the more I understand that funk is a lot more than just a genre or style of music. It is also worldwide community of creators and artists connected by common musical ancestors. Every episode, Michael and his guests focus on a particular expression of funk. And it is much more than just a history lesson - they actually play the music that they’re talking about on this podcast.

After listening for a while, a bigger picture of the “funk world” has come in... more

  • Funky and smart!

I love it when artists get to talk about their craft, the things they love. This is clearly the aim of this podcast and Michael B is a fantastic host with the knowledge and discipline to know when to prod further, when to “fanboy” out, and when to just let the artist talk. I’d give it 6 stars if I could.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Angels of Libra!
Q: Where does the name Angels of Libra come from and why did you choose it for the band?
The name started as the title of a song about balance and hope drawn from themes in classical myth and astrology; it wasn't initially intended as a band name, but it felt like a good, distinctive identity once Nathan and Dennis realized it fit the music's vibe and symbolism.
Organ Fairchild!
Q: How did Organ Fairchild come together as a self-contained trio?
They jammed after a soundcheck with no bass player, realized they could cover the bass keyboard parts, and thus decided to form a self-contained organ trio that could perform as a complete unit.
Here Come the Mummies!
Q: Tell us more about the new album coming down the road?
We've been working on it and I was actually doing a little bit on it this morning as we speak.
LaMP!
Q: How do the members approach the songwriting process in LAMP?
Each member has a unique approach; I'm an improviser at heart, and we often build our songs around grooves and melodies that come from our jam sessions together.
LaMP!
Q: What is the live music scene like in Vermont?
Vermont's music scene has changed, with fewer people going out as much as before, but we're still seeing strong support for live music.
