  • An axe to grind

Unfortunately with the last podcast with Andy Newell, the host continues to put his guests in an uncomfortable position about whether it’s ok to have greater female representation in coaching. As one other reviewer put it, great guests but the podcast is often derailed by an underlying agenda that seems against female athletes and coaches

  • Wish it was about skiing

The host uses this podcast to talk about himself, his life, his inside jokes and stories with the athletes. Every sentence starts with I. And clearly the host has a beef with the women’s Nordic team and wants to trip somebody up in to saying they get special treatment; maybe he hates all female athletes in general (heck, maybe all women). Wish he would let the guests talk about skiing.

  • Great guests, please get a new host

The question to JC about male athletes having a more “complicated” time because of the current political atmosphere was such a loaded question. This podcast just seems like an opportunity for the host to pat his ego and reference inside jokes. It’s really uncomfortable as a listener and seems uncomfortable for the guests. Appreciate learning more about the athlete’s lives and approach to sport, but the host ruins it for me.

It's those days when there’s not a whole lot going on, like sitting in a hotel room, staring at your phone with nothing to do.
JC Schoonmaker has arrived
Q: What do you think were the biggest obstacles you had to overcome?
Getting on the World Cup required learning to trust my training and overcoming feelings of intimidation from competitors who were more elite.
JC Schoonmaker has arrived
Q: At what point did you think to yourself, you know, JC, you might be able to really make a run at this thing?
I think the very first moment that really solidified that was US Nationals in 2020 when I won the Skate Sprint Qualifier, which qualified me for my first World Cup.
Research and development with Rossignol (sponsored episode)
Q: What's the best way to go about buying a new pair of skis?
Consider where you do the most skiing and what conditions you encounter, then find skis that suit those factors along with your abilities.
Factory grinds and structure with Rossignol (sponsored episode)
Q: Would you press in structure?
For quick hour ski, unless it’s really mashed potato conditions, you probably don't need to worry too much about it.
